6 Star Energy Ratings

In Australia it is a Government requirement that all dwellings meet energy efficiency regulations before a building permit can be granted. It is really important that energy efficiency is at the forefront of your planned construction. Heating and cooling can be lost if poor design and stage inspections are missed.

When designing your home, you need to consider key factors that will affect your energy rating:

  • Where the building is positioned on your land
  • A single or double story home
  • Ceiling and wall insulation
  • Floor coverings
  • Window size, type of glass and window covering choices
  • Fans and vents

The Government National Construction Code states that new constructions should meet a minimum energy rating of 6 stars. This includes either a solar water heating system or rainwater tank to comply with the code. To receive a building certificate, your construction must follow this rating.
